In the Harz Mountains 9 – 16 June
We stay in the Waldhotel Achtermannstor in the hamlet of Königskrug off the main B4 road at 700m height, in Germany’s most northerly mountain range. It is in the heart of the newly railway formed Harz National Park which spans the old East-West German border. The Brocken, “the witches mountain”, at 1142m, is within easy reach. There is also a narrow gauge running to the top, where you can visit the Alpine Garden. The hotel has single, twin and double en-suite rooms and serves evening meals.
